Frequently asked questions

What level of English is required?

All English levels are welcome in the July Holiday Program.

Students will be asked to take an online English test before the course starts so that our teachers have an understanding of their level. The course content has been designed to allow students to participate at their individual levels.

Is a device required to participate in this program?

Students are encouraged to bring a device to class. A laptop or tablet is ideal, but a smart phone is sufficient.
Wifi access is available throughout the campus.

Are activities supervised?

Yes. Safety is our priority and all off campus activities are supervised by two English language teachers. Students will return to campus with their teacher by 3pm each day.

Where are the classes held?

Classes are held at the Hawthorn-Melbourne campus at Level 1, 333 Exhibition St, Melbourne.

Do you provide accommodation?

We are unable to provide accommodation or airport transfers for participants in this program.

If you do not have family or friends in Melbourne to care for your child, there are independent, experienced companies that provide these services.

These include:

Guardianship Services

Homestay Placement and airport transfers

When confirming the enrolment, Hawthorn-Melbourne will ask for

  • the name, address and contact details of the student’s guardian while they are in Melbourne, whether they are a family member or friend
  • the name and address of the student’s accommodation while they are in Melbourne, which may or may not be the same as the guardian

What options are available for lunch?

There is a 30minute lunch break included in the daily schedule from 11:30am to 12:00pm.
Students are not permitted to leave campus unsupervised during this lunch break.

Students are welcome to bring their lunch to school; microwaves and hot water facilities are available in the school dining area for heating food. There are also vending machines available selling light meals, snacks and drinks.

A small supermarket is located on the ground floor of our building where students can purchase food and drinks on the way to school each day. This supermarket is open from 7:30am.

What does the online language assessment look like?

Students are provided a username and log in to access our testing system (moodle). The level test will take about 50 minutes to complete and include sections on listening, grammar and writing.

The results of the test will assist the teachers to tailor the class lessons at a suitable level.
